Use a square image of at least 512×512 pixels for best results. SVG format works perfectly for any size.

.ico files support multiple resolutions in one file and have legacy browser support. Modern browsers prefer .png favicons, but you should include .ico for maximum compatibility.

For full cross-browser and platform support: favicon.ico (legacy), 32×32 PNG (modern browsers), 180×180 PNG (Apple Touch), 192×192 and 512×512 PNG (Android/PWA).
